Find Your Hyde
The characters Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde in Robert Louis Stevenson's thriller Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde represent an exploration of the concept that good and evil exist within one person, constantly at war. Edward Hyde literally represents the doctor's other self, a psychopathic being unrestrained by the conventions of civilized society, who shares a body with the doctor. An alter ego is a second self, a second personality or persona within a person. This can also refer to the way a person may exclusively act differently in different situations. Get emotional! Your alter ego can be silly or serious, spiritual or secular, obscure or obvious. Don’t forget to dress the part!
Anthropomorphic Assemblage
Students were required to create an anthropomorphous ceramic sculpture that included one found object. This assignment required students to think conceptually about depicting emotions, gestures or characteristics through non human forms. The addition of a found object also required attention to craft and form to anticipate clay shrinkage as well as the aesthetic combination of materials.
STICK IT.
In order to better understand our physical and social environment we will design and photograph our own sticker graffiti art. These stickers may promote a political agenda, comment on a policy or issue, or comprise an avant-garde art campaign. This form of street art allows graffiti to instantly be placed anywhere accessible, with a much lower risk of apprehension and cause less damage to the target surface than is possible with other types of street art.
**Note** For the assignment you will temporarily tape your stickers in their intended locations for photographing, with either double stick tape or looped scotch tape, then take the stickers down.
We are not condoning anyone’s choice to vandalize / deface public or private property by leaving the stickers up.
